First Kaizoku Unit painted

First Kaizoku pirate unit finished. Experimented with painting bamboo spears and non historical bamboo bows. I think it gives a nice contrast. The unit is 8 bases of average warriors all with swordsmen. The front rank counted impact foot and the rear rank have bow. I have used a mixture of three box sets and also mixed up the parts from different models to create an irregular look.

Murakami Kaizoku Pirate raiding force

An interesting list, not very competative, but represents a Murakami Kaizoku Pirate raiding force. (695pts)

Very weak versus mounted and “proper” samurai , but would be a fast hitting battle line versus pike and shot.

Armoured Ashigaru spear and the unit of Impact foot are there to provide rear support. Samurai, hatamoto and armoured bowmen for countering mounted. Impact foot allies for attacking the main line.

The whole list can comfortably fill the board width and still have reserves.

An interesting option: Murakami Kaizoku with Woko Pirates

Been thinking about the overall look and feel of the army. Plus running through a POAs vs Pike/Shot. Spearmen POA does not apply versus protected pike/shot. Hence although superior my Samurai are going to fighting at a disadvantage. Impact foot however, do get the a single plus. I’m going to be largely going to be on the back foot versus mounted, so I’m not going expended effort on counter acting something I cannot really influence , other than grab terrian so not in the open.

Back to look and feel: when selecting Murakami Kaizoku, you have the option be bring Woko (Japanese/Chinese) pirates. Arrr… As Madaxeman (Tim Porter) would say.

The Woko give you units that are swordsmen with half ranks being impact foot and half either bow or arquebus. I will go with bow as the short range is the same as my charge range. Reading the list “small print” a usual change for the Woko units is when a base is lost. The Impact foot POA remains at the front.

Given the figures I already have, mine will have a tatty samurai look about them. Basing will be fun as I could do a beach theme with debris.

With the list below, the GC is going to be busy and I only have one TC I can commit to the front rank in combat.
